"How do I apply for an electrical permit in Miami-Dade County?"
The answer depends on whether your project have a Master Permit or requires a full plan review.
Below is a simplified explanation of how the process typically works.
Step 1 – Register as a Contractor
Before you can apply for permits in Miami-Dade County, your company must be registered as an approved contractor.
This is a one-time registration process. Once your company is approved, you'll be able to apply for permits online.

Option 1 – Projects That Qualify Under a Master Permit
If your project qualifies for a Master Permit, the process is very straightforward.
After logging into the Miami-Dade permitting portal, you'll simply:

Select the appropriate permit type.

Enter the property address or folio number.

Complete the requested project information.

Review the application.

Pay the applicable permit fees.
Once payment is processed, the permit is typically issued immediately.

Option 2 – Projects Requiring Plan Review
If your project does not qualify under a Master Permit, or the online permit portal does not allow you to apply through the simplified process, you'll need to submit your application through the RER Electronic Permits & Reviews System.
This is the system Miami-Dade County uses for projects that require plan review.

Plan Review
After your application is submitted, Miami-Dade reviewers will examine the documents.

After the required fees have been paid, Miami-Dade County issues the electrical permit.
At that point, construction may begin, and inspections can be scheduled as work progresses.
